What is the One Thing that Lasts Forever and Never Expires?

Every week my husband and I do our weekly check of all the expiration dates in the refrigerator to see if anything has expired.  Chances are there are at least 1-2 items that need to be thrown out.  Did you know there is one item in your pantry that never expires?  You probably already guessed from the picture;  honey is one food that never expires.  In fact honey was used in Egyptian practices of mummification.  After hundreds of years, the honey in the Egyptian tombs was still found to be edible.  Because of honey’s qualities of high acidity, low water volume and antibacterial properties, it acts as a natural preservative.

What is One Thing that Lasts Forever and Never Expires in our Spiritual Lives?

God’s Love.

There is a whole list that could be included of things that never expire such as God’s grace, his mercy, his strength, his faithfulness, his forgiveness, etc.  But God’s love is what encompasses all of these things.  His love never runs out and it will never expire.

“For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:5

God’s love is like honey, it lasts forever and never expires.  It not only is able to make life’s moments sweeter, but is the one ingredient that preserves life when it’s added.  God’s love is immeasurable.  His love is able to heal, mend, and put together our broken hearts.  His love  makes the impossible, possible.  His love can lift us up, provide for all of our needs and give us more than we could ever ask for or imagine.  It is bigger than anything.

God’s love will never give up or expire. His love never fails and it endures forever.

In the Bible, God makes over 6,000 promises.  That is a lot of promises!  The good news is, we can trust that he will keep every promise he makes.  God is good.

Our world is becoming a different place.  A world that is filled with more anger, jealously, pride, arrogance and selfishness than actual love (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).  Worldly love constantly changes.  We are only loved and accepted if we perform at a certain level, if we look a certain way, if we agree with the other person.  We are only good until our next new purchase or next promotion we get, making it nearly impossible to measure up.

God’s love never changes.  In God’s love we are always accepted no matter who we are, who we were, or who we will be.  He accepts us just the way we are.  In his love we are beautiful, accepted, and valuable.  His love is not to be confused with worldly love which condemns and loves conditionally.

Worldly love eventually runs out and expires over time.  God’s love is faithful and loves us unconditionally and eternally.

There may be times I do not like God’s plan, but I know his plan is always better than mine and he loves me.  Just as my husband and I clean out our fridge weekly to get rid of all the outdate items, we need to be doing that in out spiritual lives as well.

There comes a time to examine our hearts to get rid of all the anger, jealousy, pride, arrogance and selfishness.  These things should have an expiration date.  If they have been lingering around for one year, five years or even more than ten years, maybe it’s time to get rid of them?  Keeping these things in our hearts will only turn into other things such as bitterness and hate.  Nothing good ever comes from anger and hate.

When we make room for God’s love and get rid of all the expired things that are crowding our hearts, only more love will grow.

No one is perfect.  It may take the rest of our lives to get it right;  that is okay.  Our lives are a work in progress.  The good news is, God’s mercy and grace makes up for our shortcomings (2 Corinthians 12:9).  I love the powerful message Pope Francis is sending right now, that no matter if we are a prisoner or homeless, that we matter and we are loved.

Despite our mistakes, he does not want our lives to not be filled with anger, troubles or struggles, but filled with his joy, peace, hope and freedom! (Click to Tweet).

God designed us for more, a life filled with his abundant love.  We are all called to Love. (Click to Tweet)

We are called to Love.  Praying all of our lives will be filled with more love.  I pray that whatever you are going though, you will filled abundantly with God’s love and promises.  We can be encouraged by his promises!  You my friend are Loved!

“Above all love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  (1 Peter 4:8)

Hold on to His Promises they are very thing that will Encourage you and Lift you UP.
