Bible Study

Why is Bible Study important?

At first the Bible may seem so overwhelming a person doesn’t know where to even begin. When I first started reading the Bible it seemed so hard to understand. It felt like I needed an interpreter just to understand it. The more time I spent reading the Bible, spending time in prayer with God, the more I started to have a better understanding of the Bible and what it is really all about. It’s like getting to know someone, the more time you spend with them, the more you learn about them. The more you read the Bible, you will discover God isn’t in the condemnation business but the transformation business. He desires your heart. The best way to read the Bible is to jump in and start reading! The more you know the more you grow. Knowledge is power.

The Bible: The Word of God

1. Provides Nourishment
The same way healthy food provides nourishment to your body is the same way God’s words provide nourishment to your soul. When a person eats healthy and exercises they grow stronger and healthier. If you stop eating and exercising you would eventually die. Our souls have life. They need to be fed and nourished the same way our physical bodies do. Staying in the word of God provides nourishment to your soul, giving life to your soul. A soul that is not fed is a soul that will be dead. We reap what we sow. Time spent with God is the best investment you could ever make that reaps the greatest rewards.

2. A Way of Life
The Bible is meant to be a guide for our steps. To equip and prepare us with the wisdom of God. To teach us God’ ways, how to have long lasting meaningful relationships, how to treat others, what it means to be a Christian. It is not meant to be a book of rules we follow like a bunch of robots but a way of life that gives abundantly.

3. The Source of God’s Truth
Being equipped with God’s truth will help a person stand firm when the world is going the other way. It will help you discover your identity in Christ in who he says you are, find your acceptance, your approval and your worth in God’s love. It will help you discover the eternal riches and inheritance that are yours. It will help you be able to make wiser choice and recognize the faces of evil that are trying to destroy, destruct and defeat you. God desires for you to live and walk in his victory he has already won, not for you to be defeated by the ways of this world.

4. Provides Hope, Healing, Encouragement
There is so much destruction and devastation in the Bible. There are many who were corrupt and downright evil. The Bible in many ways reflects how life on earth is in present day. Even in the face of tragedy and devastation it is possible to rejoice because of what Jesus has done for us. The Bible is meant to be your source of hope, find healing and receive encouragement.

5. Provides Wisdom
How awesome God left us a instruction manual for life? The Bible is filled so much wisdom that God desires in all of our lives. He desires us to partake in the fruits of his spirit of kindness, gentleness, humbleness, peace, love, joy. He desires for you to build your house on a foundation of wisdom so when storms come your way you will be able to stand firm, persevere and endure. To warn us what is evil about the end of times. To show us his goodness, his grace and his mercy is enduring and everlasting.

6. God’s Heart
The Bible is the heart of God. The more time spent in the Bible you will discover God’s heart of who he really is, what he desires and how much he loves you! The more you will see his plans are good and greater. You will discover his provision for all your needs more than you could ask for or imagine. Discovering more about God’s heart the more you will be filled with his abundance.

7. The Best Plan Ever
Imagine a life without disease, war, devastation, evil, death, tragedy, hardships, etc. Imagine a life you will be reunited with loved ones again, where no one has pain or sorrow only joy. There is such a life as this in heaven and even earth when Jesus lives in our hearts. God pays attention to details. He didn’t leave us here to be left with devastation but a life filled with eternal hope. He has overcome death making it possible for us to live eternally with him. He makes the best plans ever one that allows us to not be defeated by our circumstance but walk in his victory! The Bible is filled with God’s redemption, his forgiveness, his mercy, grace, his defeat over death and turning the impossible into possible!

What I’m Studying

I have always wanted to study the book of Acts. It is the first book after the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). It is the first book which spreads the gospel of Jesus telling as many people as possible in as many places as possible the good news of Jesus, he is our Savior, he has risen and gone to heaven. Acts is the beginnings of the Christian church. It is the early accounts of those who witnessed the death of Jesus, his resurrection and ascension into heaven. Could you imagine being a witness to the most amazing event that occurred on earth? The good news, the gospel is meant to be shared with others to invite them into the best life ever with God. Not to follow a bunch of rules, but one that develops the most loving relationship ever. Acts is a beautiful account that even in the face of persecution, Christians can still rejoice because of what Jesus has done for us!
