Have you ever prayed so hard for a prayer you desired God to answer?
Not just any ordinary prayer haphazardly thrown up to heaven, in hopes God will answer. But praying like you believe God is able to move the mountains. Praying as your life depended upon it.
Maybe you’re praying, for your marriage to be restored, for someone to be healed from a sickness, or for a struggle or temptation to be removed from your life.
Whatever circumstance you’re praying for, do you believe God is able?
One person in the Bible who reminds me what happens when we pray like it counts is Nehemiah. Two main events happen in the book of Nehemiah, the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem and the return of the Jewish exiles, none of which would have happened without prayer.
When Nehemiah heard about the suffering of his people and the destruction of Jerusalem’s walls, his heart was broken.
“When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said:
“Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel”. Nehemiah 1:4-6
This was not the first time the walls of Jerusalem had been destroyed. They had been rebuilt under the leadership of Ezra in 516 BC which took almost 20 years.
When Nehemiah heard the news the city wall of Jerusalem had been destroyed and his people were in exile, he prayed for an entire 4 months, before making any decisions. After the 4 months of prayer were over the wall was rebuilt in just 52 days.
What was the difference?
Nehemiah didn’t let the knowledge of the previous wall under Ezra’s care deter him from rebuilding the wall.
Nehemiah never lost sight of God’s purpose of doing this WITH God not FOR God. He stayed in prayer to receive God’s mission until the job was done.
Nehemiah’s strong leadership skills- He knew his team. He dealt with noblemen, priests, tradesman, servants, etc. Although they didn’t have the enneagram personality test to determine what everyone’s skill sets were, Nehemiah had wise decisive skills that allowed him to use his team to the best of their abilities. When the complaints and doubts poured in, he put a stop to them before they could undermine the work.
Nehemiah never allowed the obstacles of the wall to be bigger than God. Even though Nehemiah faced a lot of inward and outward opposition during the wall rebuilding, staying in prayer allowed him to discern when someone or something was trying to throw his mission off course.
Nehemiah’s story is a testimony of what God is able to do when we pray like it counts. His fervent prayer was enough to move God’s heart, to help him stay focused on God’s purpose in completing the wall. When we embrace God’s purpose for us, staying focused on his purpose and not our obstacles, God will move our obstacles.

I don’t know about you but I have thought about this question many times. There have been many prayers I have prayed my whole life, God still hasn’t answered. Does that mean he doesn’t care? Does it mean God isn’t listening? I pray this post encourages you to know that God indeed is listening and he cares and loves you very much.
I have heard many say ‘God didn’t answer my prayer, that must mean he doesn’t love me.’ Even though it may be true God doesn’t answer all of your prayers the way you want them, he isn’t a genie in the bottle waiting to grant our every wish. God doesn’t work that way. He is our Father who loves us, who knows what is best for us, who sees the bigger picture and has the best plan ever for our lives. To not answer our prayers may mean that God has something better waiting ahead.
When our third child was born with a fatal kidney disease, my husband and I prayed for God to please heal our son and for him not to suffer anymore. We had so many people praying for healing for him. The day he went to heaven, many were angry (including us at first) and said I can’t believe God didn’t answer your prayer. Even though God didn’t answer our prayer the way we wanted, he indeed answered our prayer in a bigger way than we could ever imagine.
Our son is living the best life ever in heaven where there is no more pain or suffering, he waits until one day we will see him again.
When I struggle with ‘Why isn’t God answering my prayer?’ ‘Why is this happening?’ ‘How will I ever get through this?’ I hold onto God’s promises that he is faithful, he loves me and cares about my every need. He is good all the time and I can rely on him for ALL of my needs.
When I am feeling defeated by my circumstances I think of…………..
The Israelites running away from the attack of the Egyptians. They cried out to God for help and protection and God provided a way through the Red Sea which provided them with a safe escape and toppled on top of their enemy.
Mary and Martha crying out to God, why didn’t you heal our brother, Lazarus, to see him arise from the dead 4 days later.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the fiery furnace how he kept them protected from the hot flames. There wasn’t a hair singed on their body and they didn’t even smell like smoke.
I think of Daniel in the lion den. God sent an angel to shut the mouths of those lions and kept Daniel safe.
It may not seem a likely place to find hope in unanswered prayers, but know that God uses them for good. He will never waste your prayers or pain. Your prayers are precious gold to him.
In your trials is where you will find hidden treasures of what God is trying to show you WHEN you allow him to have your struggles and pain.
Do you have unanswered Prayers?
Did God answer your prayers in a way you didn’t even think was possible?
Keep Praying. Never Stop. God is listening. He is always with you! God is Faithful! In God all things are possible! You never know what Prayers God will answer, know you can always trust him and his plans lead to the best life ever!
In God We can Find Comfort in our Trials.
In God We can Find our Hope despite devastation. In God We can Find our Peace in the Storms.
In God We can Find Joy in our Struggles. Keep Fighting the Good Fight with your Prayers!
There is HOPE in our unanswered Prayers!
What do you think God does with unanswered prayers?

Inner Demons. We all have them. They’re around every corner, behind every temptation. We wrestle with them. We stuff them down so we don’t have to deal with them. We avoid them. We lie to ourselves and pretend they don’t exist. But they are there. Always lurking around, waiting to take hold of us, to control our lives. If we’re not careful these inner demons can lead us to places we don’t want to be and take us captive to the point of destruction.
One boy in the Bible, reminds me of what can happen when inner demons take control of our lives. We don’t know his name, but we all can relate to his story.
In Mark 9, we see the desperate plea of a Father who is frantic to find help for his son. He approaches Jesus and says, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not” (Mark 9:17-18).
Jesus then says to the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” (Mark 9:21). The Father answers, “From childhood.” We have no idea how old his son is or how long he’s been possessed. But the father paints the picture of torment the boy has endured, telling Jesus the impure spirit often throws the boy into fire and water trying to kill him. He begs Jesus, ‘if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us’ (Mark9:21-22).
Jesus then rebuked the impure spirit and said, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again. The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up (Mark 9:25-27).”
How many times have we been there, doubting God that He is able? Everything is possible for one who believes. When we believe, the unbelievable happens. Everyone was amazed and shocked at this scene. The disciples who had previously tried to cast out the demon questioned, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” (Mark 9:28).
Wait, you’re telling me the disciples forgot to pray!?!?! We too can be guilty of trying to handle our demons in our own way by ourselves, forgetting to allow God to handle it.
This story shows me how powerful prayer really is. Prayer is the language the deaf can hear and the mute can speak. Back in biblical times, it was believed only the Messiah Himself could cast out mute and deaf demons. But Jesus tells us, prayer is what the demon understood and what drove it out.
Maybe you’re wrestling with deep, dark hidden demons right now.
Maybe you struggle with finding your worth and value in status, money, external beauty and things of this world. Maybe you’re trying to fill a void by seeking attention in not so good places. Maybe your demons are shame, doubt, guilt, keeping you in an ugly cycle of brokenness not allowing you to move forward.
We can all relate to effects the demon had on the little boy’s life. The demon took away his ability to speak, it seized him, paralyzing him from living life. The demon placed him in harm’s way almost destroying his life to the point of death.
There is freedom when we release our demons to God. I promise when we give our demons to God in prayer He will take us by the hand, lift us up, so we can stand just like he did for the boy.
Do you believe everything is possible for the one who believes?
Do you have inner demons that hold you captive from what God desires?
Spend time with God today, ask Him, ‘what are my inner demons that hold me back from what you desire?’ Ask for prayer from a friend or a pastor. Write out your prayer to address your inner demon, give it to God so you can live the abundant life God desires for you, free from strongholds holding you captive.

If I were to ask you to recite the Lord’s Prayer whether you are a Christian or non-Christian I bet most of us could recite some lines from this prayer. In this prayer, Jesus is teaching His disciples how to pray. I don’t know about you, but sometimes my prayer life can become dull like I’m reciting a memorized prayer. Reciting a prayer from my lips that has no meaning in my heart is like an empty cup waiting to be filled. An empty cup is not fulfilling its purpose unless it’s filled.
The purpose of prayer works the same way in our lives. The Lord’s Prayer was never meant to just be something we memorize but a pattern that we apply to our hearts and lives. God knows better than us what we need and directs our steps in The Lord’s Prayer. I encourage you to read this whole article today to develop a powerful pattern of prayer that God desires to bring us the most abundant life ever in Him.
Worship
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Jesus starts His prayer off by turning to God, His Father. His prayer begins with showing reverence, respect for our God who is sovereign, omnipotent and creator of all things. Turning our eyes towards God focuses our attention on his abilities that nothing is too difficult for Him. Recognizing God for everything He is to us, takes our focus off of ourselves and gives Him the glory, which is a form of worship.
Submission
Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This part of the prayer puts God’s will first ahead of our own agenda. Allowing God’s desires to be greater than our desires gets rid of any selfishness or self-centeredness. God is able to do anything, however, the way God works in our lives isn’t as a genie in a bottle ready to grant our every wish. If our hearts are filled with things that get in the way of him such as greed, lust or selfishness, we limit God’s power within us. In order to receive God’s divine power working within us, we must be in places of humbleness and surrender. Submission prepares our hearts for the next part of the prayer.
Appropriate Requests
Give us this day our daily bread. This is the part of the prayer is where we ask God for our requests and needs. This is where we can ask for help for anything we need in our lives such as marriage, parenting, help with finances, provision, relationships. God’s provision can provide us with anything. But if our requests are inappropriate such as, ‘God please give me a million dollars,’ He will not grant our requests. Daily bread is our daily provision of what God offers not what we desire. When we have the daily bread He provides for us we are eternally satisfied (John 6:35). When we are content with the daily provision in what God provides us we can forgo the rat race and make do with what He provides.
Confession
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Asking forgiveness from God purifies our hearts and makes us right before Him. Our sin and unforgiveness separate us from God.
Jesus said, “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matt. 6:14-15).
Thankfully God is in the healing and restoration business. He cares about our eternal salvation. Jesus paid a high price for our sins with his life. It costs us nothing to forgive but costs us our lives if don’t forgive. Forgiving someone who hurt you may be the hardest thing you do. But I promise when you do forgive, you will be set free from the heavy burden of carrying around unforgiveness. Jesus came so we could have life and have it to the full, not so we can be weighed down with our sins and burdens. Confessing our sins removes the obstacles in our hearts for God’s love to grow within us and cleans out our hearts.
Authority
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Asking God to protect us from temptation and the evil one recognizes God as the authority in our lives. This part of the prayer is asking God who is Lord in our lives to direct our steps and keep Satan away from our hearts. Praying for protection over our hearts is so important to keep the enemy out of our lives and allows victory over our temptations. Deliverance sets us free from our sins, temptations, and strongholds that keep us captive and away from God’s plan in our lives.
Worship
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. The Lord’s prayer not only begins with worship but ends in worship as well. Ending our prayer by giving thanks to God for all that he does for us acknowledges that He is the God of the heaven and earth.
The Lord’s prayer isn’t meant to be rote memorization but active, alive and breathing in our lives. We can learn so much from what Jesus teaches us in The Lord’s Prayer. Prayer can be so powerful in our lives if we use it the way God intended for us.
What have you learned from The Lord’s Prayer?
Write out your own pattern of Prayer of Worship, Submission, Requests, Confession, Authority, and Worship.

Have you ever sat down to pray and just didn’t know what to say? Or felt like your prayers were empty and meaningless? Or if God was even listening?
Prayer is one the most important things we can do in our lives, yet when life gets busy, its one of the first things we omit out of our daily schedules and what we give up when we do don’t see ‘our prayers working.’
Maybe one of the reasons prayer can be so difficult is because of its meaning.
In English, Pray means ‘to ask or beg.’
In Hebrew, the word for Pray Tefillah means to ‘self-examine.’ The root word for Tefillah is Tofel, which means to ‘attach, join or bind together.’
In Aramaic, the word for Pray salah means ‘to bow, worship.’
In Greek, the word for Pray proseuchomai means to ‘supplicate, to worship.’
As one can see, the definition for pray has a variety of definitions. So which definition is correct?
All of them.
Prayer is a way to worship God, it is a way to sit before God to self-examine ourselves and how we ask God to intercede on our behalf and bow before Him in His presence.
Nonetheless, prayer doesn’t have one singular definition and fit into a box. Making prayer fit one singular definition would limit God’s abundant meaning, purpose, and power for prayer. The purpose of prayer isn’t solely meant to just ask God for our own needs and personal gain, or just to ‘self-examine’ ourselves or just to worship. Prayer goes way beyond that.
Prayer is our invitation to God to open the door for His divine power to move the mountains in our lives and others. Taking our struggles to God through prayer invites Him into our lives, brings us into His presence and binds us closer together with Him.
So what do we say when we don’t know what to pray?
God doesn’t judge our prayers. They don’t have to be filled with eloquent words or with verbatim Scripture. We don’t have to be on our knees, bow our heads or even fold our hands. The prayer posture and how we pray is God’s least concern. God is more concerned about when we don’t pray and the condition of our hearts. Our prayers are a way to get our hearts right with God and communicate with Him.
If you struggle with what to say during prayer here is a prayer tool that may help.
Praise Repent Ask Yield
PRAISE
If you don’t know what to say, start with the very nature of what prayer is, praise. Some of the best prayers written in the Bible are prayers of praise spoken by David in the Psalms. Start telling God everything you are thankful for. Praising God first sets our hearts and minds on our Creator and His greatness and puts us in His presence. Praise purifies and softens our hearts, so we can hear what God is saying. (James 4:6-10)
REPENT
Next comes the hard part of what prayer is—repentance. No one likes to admit their wrongs or even speak them out loud. Confessing our sins to God opens a door for His forgiveness, so we don’t allow sin to reign in our lives but allow more room for God’s truth and grace. Confession allows us to humbly come before our Lord, lay our burdens at His feet, so He can do something greater than we ever could on our own. Confession invites God in to intervene on our behalf. (Matt. 3:8, Isa. 30:15).
ASK
Next, tell God all that is troubling you. He wants to hear what is in your heart. He wants every part of you, struggles and all. Ask God for help and healing, to supply for your needs, your provision, safety, wisdom, discernment, guidance, direction. God is always bigger than our struggles and can handle anything we ask of Him. (Phil. 4:19)
YIELD
Lastly, yield to God. Submitting our ways to God to His will and way allows for God’s greater plan to happen through us. Pray for God’s desires to be your desires. At the end of the day, it’s about God’s plans, not ours. (1 Peter 5:6, James 4:7)
Satan tries to limit your praying because he knows your praying will limit him. ~Zig Ziglar
Next time you pray, don’t allow Satan to keep you silent. Cutting prayer out of our lives, cuts our direct communication and relationship off with God, which is exactly what Satan wants. Your prayers matter and make a difference to God. Never stop praying, He is listening.
What is one action step you can take today, to make prayer more meaningful and purposeful in your life?
What does prayer mean to you?
What do you pray when you don’t know what to say?
Prayer- Dear Lord, We praise you even when we don’t understand. We thank you for your greatness and power of what you are able to do. We know prayer can move mountains but can let the busyness of life to get in the way of doing what matters most—spending time with you. Forgive us, Lord, for allowing busyness and distractions get in the way of what you desire for us. Help us stay committed and devoted in prayer daily and integrate it into our lives. We praise you, in Jesus name. Amen.

Marriage is one of the biggest blessings in life, yet 40%-50% of marriages end up in divorce. If marriage is such a blessing, then why do so many marriages fail? I think there are many factors at play–a person’s background and upbringing, parents who had a loving successful marriage, children, poor role models, trials, dysfunctional habits. But I think one of the most important factors that help couples STAY together is PRAYER.
A study written by the National Association of Marriage Enhancement stated out of 1156 couples, those who prayed together on a daily basis less than 1% ended in divorce. The study went even further to analyze what the couples did at home together. Were they apart of the same denomination? Did they attend church together? Did they share the same beliefs and values? Did they do any worship activities at home?
The study found there was a higher level of marital satisfaction when the couples shared the same religious practices at home which included reading the Bible together. Unfortunately, despite knowing this information, only 4% of Christian couples pray together on a daily basis. The important message from the study was if you want a strong marriage that is long-lasting and able to endure trials and hardships, develop a consistent pattern of prayer and reading your Bibles together.
Who is ready to start praying!?!?!?
It all starts with prayer. Here are 5 P’s to pray over your Marriage. Make a commitment to pray together for the next 30 days and see what happens. If you are ready to start reading the Bible together there is a Bible reading plan as well. Those who pray together stay together. Those who read their Bibles together become deeply rooted in God’s word. God’s word then becomes alive and living in their lives.
5 P’s to Pray Over Your Marriage
1. Prosper
Pray for your marriage to grow, flourish and prosper. Pray your marriage will bear God’s fruits and grow deeply rooted in his love. Pray your communication with one another will be effective and prosper. Pray for unity, peace, and harmony with each other and in your marriage.
Pray God will equip and prepare you for what he has in store for you. Pray for patience along the way, because it will be tested. Patience prepares us for God’s plans. Pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to be working within you to dwell richly in your hearts. Pray for strength and courage to endure and persevere any trials that come your way. Pray to be in a position of readiness, to be alert and aware of anything getting in the way of God or putting your marriage at risk or in danger. Ask God to rid our hearts of any arrogance, pride deceit, malice, anger or bitterness (Mark 7:21).
Pray for God to fill your heart with His desires. Pray these verses over your marriage, Psalm 37:4, Romans 12:12, Galatians 6:9, Philippians 4:13, Joshua 1:9, Colossians 3:16.
3. Praiseworthy
Pray your marriage will be a godly example, admirable and meritorious for God. Pray that you will be gracious towards one another, express gratitude and thankfulness. Pray you are gentle, kind, patient and forgiving towards one another. Pray you will see your spouse through God’s eyes and praise your spouse daily. Pray you will love your spouse the way God loves them. Pray you will be encouraging towards one another and build each other up (1 Thes. 5:11).
Pray these verses over your marriage, Philippians 4:8, Ephesians 4:32, Galatians 5:22, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Psalm 115:1-2.
4. Purpose
Pray your marriage is a godly marriage that shines the light of Jesus (Matthew 5:15-16). Pray God will be the center of your marriage giving your marriage power and purpose. Pray you will not get in the way of God’s purpose and plan your lives and marriage. Pray for God to be Lord over our lives and marriages. Pray for your husband to allow God to be Lord in His life and be the spiritual leader he has called him to be. Pray you will give love and respect to one another. Pray for willing and obedient hearts that allow God’s purpose and plan to become alive in your lives. Pray you will allow God’s will to be done in your lives and marriage. Pray God will use your marriage for his greater purpose and plan.
Pray these verses over your marriage Romans 8:28, Psalm 138:8, Matthew 5:15-16, Jeremiah 1:5, Jeremiah 29:11.
5. Protection
Pray for protection against Satan, lies, doubt, temptations, sin, and discouragement. Pray the enemy will stay out of your marriage.
Pray the armor of God over your marriage in Ephesians 6:10-20. Pray your marriage will stand strong in the Lord by putting on the armor of God. Pray you will not fight against each other but in prayer against the enemy. Pray you will stand firm in God’s truth by buckling the belt of truth tightly around your waists. Pray the breastplate of righteousness will guard your hearts. Pray your feet will be fitted with readiness by putting on the shoes of peace (the gospel). Pray the shield of faith will be an extra layer of protection that will extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. Pray the helmet of salvation will help protect and guard your minds against doubts, lies, and temptations. Pray you take the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and pray on all occasions with all kinds of prayers to stay alert and keep praying.
Most of all, pray you will stay committed and dedicated to prayer and reading the Bible. Praying these verses over our marriages gives power and purpose to our marriages. If you don’t have a Bible, download the YouVersion Bible app to your phone to be able to look up Bible verses.
There is so much more than we could add to our list. If there is something lacking in our marriages or that we’re struggling with–cover it in prayer. Maybe both sides struggle with patience or need to communicate better. Or maybe there needs to be more encouragement towards one another.
It doesn’t matter what our circumstances are or if we are going through a trial. When we are covered in prayer and in God’s word, nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38). Prayer keeps us protected against the enemy attacking our marriages, keeps us alert to what we need to pay attention to and keeps us in communication with God.
Every marriage will endure trials and hardships. Is our own strength and love enough to get us through? No, but God’s strength and love are. The love of Jesus is the glue that keeps our marriages together and builds us stronger than we ever were before.
Will you pray and/or read the Bible with your spouse for the next 30 days?
Pray the 5P’s over your marriage and watch them come alive in your life. God’s Words and prayer are transformational when they are active and living in our lives.
Whatever we lack in our lives, we are made complete in God.In Jesus, we have life and have it to the full (John 10:10)! In God, we lack nothing. We don’t need to look for another source to fulfill us when God is in the center of our marriages. I promise, your faithfulness and patience will reap great rewards than you could ever imagine (Ephesians 3:20)!
