5 Ways to Make the Most of Life’s Sweetest Moments

The other day, I took our son to the pediatricians office and saw this display of sugar content in sodas, sport drinks and juice.  Our family has already eliminated a lot of sugar from our diets already, but when the sugar is put into these specimen cups, it puts into perspective how much sugar we are really intaking.  For every 4 grams of sugar it equals 1 teaspoon of sugar.  One sugar drink is 3-4 times the recommended daily intake for a child (which is 3-5 teaspoons a day).  Chronic sugar intake has been proven to cause dental cavities, hyperactivity in children, obesity and diabetes. The need to make things sweeter actually causes more harm than good over the long run.

The same thing in life.  One may think by adding more to our plates, we are enriching our lives, making them sweeter, when actually we are taking away from experiencing life’s sweetest moments.  We have been talking about hurriedness and busyness, when they crowd our hearts, they do not make much room for anything else.  Hurriedness and busyness are like sugar, the more we add the more harmful they can be over the long run, taking away from life’s precious moments.

Here are 5 Ways to Make Life’s Moments Even Sweeter:
1.  Insert Kindness–  “Kind words are like honey sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”  Proverbs 16:24
Kindness when added to our lives, enriches them, adds value and character, it makes life sweeter. Kindness is something we can do everyday.  It has been a big part of my family’s life.  We have chosen to do acts of kindness to honor of our son who passed away 4 years ago.  It is a way to share with others the love we have for him.  When kindness is given, it shows God’s character, it allows people to know God’s kindness.  Click here to view our 13 Days of Kindness.  Kindness is something everyone can give and something everyone can use.

2.  Do Life Together Colossians 2:2-3- “My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in who are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  Our spiritual growth does not just happen on our own.  It is a process that requires time, learning, focus and accountability.  Having others in our lives not only helps keep us accountable but builds relationships as well.  God designed life to be done together, not go in our own separate ways. When we do life together it makes life so much more sweeter.

3.  Cherish Life’s Moments–  Never miss an opportunity to tell a loved one ‘I love you,‘ because you never know when the next opportunity will be.   “Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you….”  Isaiah 43:4 ESV

4.  Doing Something Greater than Ourselves–  Mark 10:45 “For even the son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”  We can learn a lot from the life of Jesus.  Even though he was born a King, he did not come here to be served, but to serve others.  When we serve others, like Jesus did, we learn so much about his character and kindness.  When we give and do something out of the kindness of our hearts, without expecting anything in return, it makes life sweeter.

5.  Celebrate Life–  Life is meant to be celebrated.  1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up….”  Life becomes so much sweeter when we are cheering each other on.  Encouragement gives our souls the boost that they need to keep going!  Next time someone in your life accomplishes something, no matter how big or small, celebrate with them, it makes life so much sweeter.

“This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:8 NIV

What clean eating is for our health, is what Bible verses are for our souls.  God’s words will bring health to our bodies and nourishment to our bones.  When we open our Bibles, the more we discover about God’s heart, his character and his plans.  Making room for what matters most, allows us to be filled with more of what God designed us for;  to live a life of love.

Hurriedness and Busyness is something I frequently struggle with.  I constantly need to keep myself in check so I don’t keep getting into the same cycle!  I know I can’t do it all, but I know who can.  God can turn our chaos into order, we just have to let him.

Does busyness take over your life?  Do you allow yourself to enjoy the sweet moments in life or does busyness rob you of enjoying them?

Call to Action:  Eat dinner together with a friend or family this week.  Decrease your sugar intake, as a tangible reminder to decrease the busyness and hurriedness in life.
Three years ago I made the change to cut the sugars out of my diet and replace them with either dark chocolate (made with less sugar) and organic cane sugar (which I use in my coffee).  It makes such a difference when we take the sugars out of our diets, it sets us up for success in the future.

Sugar adds up.  It’s important to keep monitoring our intake before it becomes a problem.  I hope you enjoy the almond milk recipe!  Tune in for the next three weeks, for more Clean eating for the Christian Soul!  I would love to hear from you, please leave your comments below.

Prayer–  Dear God, I pray that I will keep the busyness and hurriedness out of my life.  I know that it only makes me more tired and weary.  Please help me stay in your presence, to enjoy life’s sweetest moments and not allow the craziness of this world to take away life’s precious moments.
